Named for the most Cape Dutch gables of any farm in South Africa, on one of Stellenbosch's very first wine properties.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Chenin Blanc, from dryland, semi-trellised 36-year-old vines in a single vineyard on the slopes of the Durbanville Hills, South Africa. The landscape is known for old geological formations and Malmesbury shale soils, with cold ocean breezes tempering the heat and letting the berries hang on the vine longer. This block carries Certified Heritage Vineyard status from the Old Vines Project, which recognises vines older than 35 years.
Taste Profile: A molten, buttery gold colour with a bright lemon rind rim. Soft aromas of dried apricot and ripe tropical fruit emerge in waves, with an oak and vanilla undertone. Juicy acidity and round flavours on the medium-bodied palate, with white flesh peach and generous creaminess finishing on a stroke of almond paste.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand-harvested into 10kg lug boxes, cooled, then hand-sorted, destemmed and crushed. Skin contact lasts 6 hours before the free-run juice drains off to settle overnight ahead of inoculation. Fermentation takes place across a mix of 300L, 400L, 500L and 2,500L tight-grain French oak barrels, with the wine maturing 14 months in barrel — 60% new, 40% second-fill.
Winemaker: Spier is one of Stellenbosch's oldest wine farms, first granted as a title deed in 1692 by Governor Simon van der Stel to Arnoud Jansz, a German soldier serving the Dutch East India Company. By 1754 the farm carried over 30,000 vines, and today it holds 21 Cape Dutch gables — more than any other farm in the country — along with the oldest dated wine cellar still in use in South Africa. The Enthoven family has guided the estate since 1993, balancing that history against a more inclusive future for the property.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
