Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse Cape White Blend 2022
Named for a wooden rocking horse built from old barrel staves for the winemaker's own daughters.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of 35% Semillon Blanc, 26% Roussanne, 16% Chardonnay, 15% Chenin Blanc and 6% Clairette Blanche, sourced from a number of carefully selected vineyard sites across South Africa's Western Cape — a mix of heritage and young vineyards chosen for their ability to speak about where they're grown.
Taste Profile: Aromas of yellow plum, kumquat, lemon thyme, soft brioche and crushed oyster shell. Broad and rich to start, resolving into a keen line of acidity supported by gentle tannin.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are picked early, based mostly on taste rather than sugar levels, then whole-bunch pressed with no treatments or additions to the juice. Racked off heavy solids into old oak barrels of various sizes, fermented naturally, and allowed through malolactic fermentation. The wine is monitored closely over the following months until it settles, at which point sulphur dioxide is added.
Winemaker: Thorne & Daughters was founded in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe. John discovered wine as a student wine waiter in Stellenbosch, then studied winemaking at Plumpton College in England before working vintages in France, England, Thelema and Iona — eventually returning to South Africa to launch his own project with Tasha. Rocking Horse takes its name from a wooden rocking horse John built for his daughters out of old oak barrel staves, and remains the estate's cornerstone wine — the fullest expression of its heritage and young-vineyard sourcing. John was inducted into the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2024.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
