Vinden Wines "Fountainhead" Somerset Vineyard Shiraz 2022
Planted by the Howard family in the 1960s and 70s, on a site whose fruit built the reputations of Maurice O'Shea, Len Evans and Karl Stockhausen.
Grape Varietals & Region: Sourced from the Somerset Vineyard in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley — blocks planted by the Howard family in the 1960s and 70s on red volcanic clay soil, over a limestone hillside.
Taste Profile: A vibrant, modern Hunter Shiraz with fine tannin and dark fruit.
Winemaking Process: Made in traditional methods: cold soaked, fermented wild (10% whole bunch) in open concrete fermenters, hand plunged, and aged in French oak foudre and puncheons for 11 months.
Winemaker: Vinden Wines was founded in 1990 and is now run by second-generation winemaker Angus Vinden, who took over in 2015. Alongside the traditional Vinden Estate label, he also produces the more experimental Vinden Headcase range, balancing Hunter tradition with newer technique. Somerset Vineyard, the source for this wine, is one of the Hunter's most historically significant sites — first planted in 1891, pulled during WWII when food took priority over grapes, then replanted from 1965. Fruit from Somerset has gone into wines from Maurice O'Shea at Mount Pleasant, Len Evans at Rothbury Estate and Karl Stockhausen at Lindemans. The Howard family managed the vineyard for six generations; Angus was mentored by fifth-generation grower Glen Howard before he and his wife Hannah purchased the 90-acre site outright in 2021, becoming its current custodians.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
