Puchang Clovine Sweet Beichun is the perfect choice for mulled wine. Cherry red colour. Dried dates nose with subtle notes of bay leaf and rosemary. Particularly smooth texture and good acidity on the medium-bodied palate. Depth and complexity in the flavours as dried raspberries and red fruits dominate before extending to layers of black tea and caramel. Closes with a sweet note of sun-dried tomatoes on the long, supple finish.
Ageing potential: Drink now or keep for 10 years.
100% Beichun. The fruit grows in organic vineyards in Turpan Valley, China’s Xinjiang province, that lie on a bed of permeable soil rich in minerals. The vines experience an extreme desert climate and are watered with melting snow from Tian Shan Mountain. Untouched by men and free from pollution, the water channels through the underground Karez water system to their vineyards, keeping the water source naturally pure.
Late harvesting of the fruit so natural fructose is produced under the natural influence of the sun.
Characterised by notes of rich fruit jam/compote with a touch of spice, expect notes of prunes, plums, chocolate and spice.
Many are fortified, or are made from passito grapes
Fortified wines are wines which have alcohol added to them, usually in the form of a neutral grape spirit like brandy. This was originally done to extend the longevity of wines, for the purpose of long journeys such as a the sailing routes of the East India Company
These styles are often sweeter as the fortification arrests fermentation early.
WINES FROM UNIQUE REGIONS & BOUTIQUE WINERIES
