Regional History & Terroir: Winemaking in Syria dates back thousands of years, with evidence of wine production found in ancient sites such as Palmyra and Ebla. The country has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The terroir varies across the country, with a range of soils including limestone, basalt, and clay.
Typical Grape Varietals: Syria is known for growing both local and international grape varietals, including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Regional Wine Styles: Syria produces a range of high-quality wines, including dry, semi-dry, and sweet white wines, as well as full-bodied red wines. The traditional winemaking method of fermentation in oak barrels is still widely used in the country, resulting in complex and rich flavors. Syria is also known for its sweet dessert wines, which are made from grapes that have been left to dry and concentrate their sugars. In addition to grape wines, Syria also produces a variety of fruit wines, including pomegranate, apricot, and quince wines. However, due to ongoing political turmoil in the country, Syrian wines are not widely available on the international market
