Bodegas Proelio Rioja Gran Reserva 2015
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% old vine Tempranillo from Rioja Spain. The fruit comes from the estates of El Codo, La Peña, Cerro Las Espinillas in Sonsierra. The vines are grown on poor very degraded deep calcareous silt soils with rocks of sedimentary origin on the surface. This type of soil offers us a fresh and full-bodied long ageing wine, with silky tannins reminiscent of chalk.
Taste Profile: This wine's richly oaked blackberry and cassis aromas include hints of tobacco and sawdust. Its saturated palate is hard with rubbery tannins, suggesting it needs time to age. Its oaky, inky black fruit flavors finish toasty and dark, with tobacco and cigar box notes
Winemaking Process: After a manual harvest, the fruit is partially destemmed & crushed, and undergo spontaneous fermentation. The must undergoes frequent punchdowns, and undergoes malolactic fermentation with weekly battonage. The wine is them aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, followed by concrete for another 6 months before bottling
