Vintae has its origin in the passion for wine of José Miguel Arambarri Terrero, a businessman from La Rioja who in 1999 decided to return to family origins, recovering the Small Grain Muscat in La Rioja which had disappeared due to phylloxera. His vision gave rise to Castillo de Maetierra and Maetierra Dominum, the two wineries that were the origin of Vintae and where they began to elaborate Libalis. With the incorporation of his two sons, Richi and José Miguel, Vintae became what it is today.
Wineries and Vineyards
The adventure they started almost 20 years ago has not slowed down thanks to their creativity and desire to explore and create wines. Today Vitnae owns more than 300 hectares of vineyards and cultivate 38 different varietals, whose grapes produce more than 35 different wines so that hundreds of thousands of people can enjoy them in more than 60 countries. They have grown to become a very special family that enjoys, lives and dreams of creating new wines. Something that, together with their adventurous spirit, has led them to produce wine in 15 denominations of origin in Spain, betting on authentic, daring projects.
López de Haro
Located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of La Rioja Alta, the birthplace of the Rioja winegrowing tradition where the best old Tempranillo vineyards can be found. Three collections with Rioja Denomination of Origin were born here: Hacienda López de Haro, Classica and El Pacto.
Bardos
In the toughest and coldest area of Ribera del Duero, at more than 940 meters above sea level, between the villages of Fuentemolinos and Moradillo de Roa. El Páramo de Corcos is the most surprising and lesser known region of Ribera, 10,000 hectares of flat landscape, where only the bravest know how to work the land in extreme conditions throughout the year. They are the authentic wine Bards.
Here, only the strongest vineyards are able to survive extremely dry summers and endless long, severe winters, to offer us the most desired grape of the entire denomination. The grapes used at Bodegas Bardos to prepare a collection of elegant, very fresh wines with smooth tannins.
Matsu
Bodega Matsu sits in a land where the grape gives everything without asking for anything in return. Thanks to very special climatic conditions and a privileged soil that prevents the appearance of pests and diseases, in the DO Toro vineyards nature is always allowed to complete its own cycles. No hurries.
The result is four modern wines, made respecting the minimum intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The proof that by combining the power of Tinta de Toro with the gentleness of the land we come from, it is possible to produce an intense but elegant wine.
Maetierra
A winery in La Rioja specializing in white wines? Yes, it does exist. It is called Maetierra and is in eastern Rioja, in Calahorra. In 1999, Vintae decided to recover the Small Grain Muscat, an indigenous variety from La Rioja, considered the most aromatic in the world.
The Small Grain Muscat is the finest, most elegant and suitable for the vinification of all the muscat. And Bodega Maetierra, its new home. With it, they make their sweet wine Melante and the Libalis wine collection.
Garnachas Project
The 'Proyecto Garnachas' is a journey through the history of Garnacha through the eyes of Raul Acha, winemaker and passionate advocate of a variety that has historically been maligned for its complicated viticulture.
Raúl Acha took it upon himself to find the small plots of ancient, forgotten Garnacha vines in the Ebro Valley of the Rioja region. He used those vines to show the high-quality wines that can be achieved from this under-appreciated variety of grape. There are currently six wines offered by Proyecto Garnachas de España. Each wine comes from a different section of the Ebro Valley, from vines of distinct ages and altitudes.
Aroa
Starting out with ancestral methods and biodynamic practices, Aroa Bodegas elaborates organic and natural wines that are faithful to the privileged area where it is located, the Navarra Yerri Valley, sheltered by the Urbasa and AndÃa mountain ranges.
All the vineyards of Aroa have been grown organically from planting, promoting biodiversity to maintain an ecosystem that serves as a natural protection for the vineyard. Something that is respected when moving along to the cellar, where the wine is made using traditional processes with minimal intervention.
Atlantis
Four wines from four different denominations of origin, (Valdeorras, RÃas Baixas, Ribeiro and Txakoli) created under the influence of the Atlantic climate with indigenous varieties such as Albariño, Treixadura, Godello, and Hondarrabi Zuri.
All share the influence of a cool climate with constant rainfall, which generates wines with the perfect balance between freshness and acidity.
