Description

Raul Perez La Vizcaina Las Gundinas 2021

Grape Varietals & Region: A Mencia blend from the Bierzo region of Castilla y Leon, Spain. Though all the red wines Raul produces in the Bierzo D.O. are labelled as 100% Mencía, they all in fact contain significant quantities of other local grapes.

Taste Profile: A fresh and fruity wine made in the traditional way by Raúl Pérez, a master at maximising the use of the land. A light wine, fresh and juicy with very soft tannins and a great balance between alcohol and acidity. A supple red wine suffused with aromas of candied fruit, complemented by invigorating herbal undertones. On the palate, it is light-bodied, velvety, and rejuvenating. This wine showcases subtle tannins and a vibrant acidity.

Winemaking Process: The grapes come from a small vineyard located on the bottom of a slope. The vines are planted in deep soil, rich in clay that collects water and rainfall sediment. Harvesting is done by hand in small boxes. Fermentation occurs in timber vats of 5000 litres, the whole grape is pressed each day until fermentation occurs. Once the fermentation has occurred, the grapes macerate for 40-60 days. Finally, Las Gundiñas is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
