Marques de Tomares Rioja Gran Riserva
Marques de Tomares Gran Riserva has a aroma influenced by leather, spice, rustic graphite and crusty bread. It has a creamy red fruit on palate with moderate acid, and good grip. The tannins are rustic but clearly polished by time in the bottle. This is a really good, complex bottle of Riserva Rioja. This is what an old-fashion Rioja was imagined to be like in the1950-60’s, and this bottle should age for a long time.
A beautiful blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, with Viura. The grapes were destemmed and underwent spontaneous fermentation with twice-daily pump-overs favored over punch-downs to retain freshness. Viura is co-fermented with Mazuelo and Graciano. 100% de-stemmed grapes. Fermentation under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. 30 months in 90% French and 10% American oak and minimally 36 months in bottle.
Handpicked from Fuenmayor, Rioja Alta. Climate: Atlantic. Soil: clay-ferrous.
The winery is still releasing small amounts of Reserva and Gran Reserva wines in various formats from time to time. So now you know how precious these bottles can be.
