Winemaking Process: Barbeito Boal Old Reserve undergoes meticulous winemaking techniques to achieve its extraordinary quality.
Grapes were pressed in a continuous press. Arresting of fermentation takes place at the desired degree of sweetness by adding vinic alcohol (96%). The juice is then fermented and fortified with grape brandy, retaining a touch of natural sweetness. The wine is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 10 years, allowing it to develop remarkable depth, complexity, and a rich bouquet of flavors.
Vinos Barbeito is a renowned Madeira wine producer known for its dedication to excellence and innovation. With a history dating back to the early 20th century, Barbeito has earned a reputation for crafting exceptional fortified wines that embody the unique character of Madeira. The winemakers at Barbeito skillfully balance tradition and modern techniques to create wines that showcase the distinct terroir and grape varietals of the region.
These wines are often aged oxidatively and show developed characteristics of rich caramel, cream and a range of nutty aromas. Sweetness levels can vary.
Many of these wines are made from dried grapes, and are often fortified or solera aged. Often viscous in texture, they classically have notes of almonds, coffee, and marmalade. Some styles may have a "cooked" tinge to it due to being aged in warm conditions
Fortified wines are wines which have alcohol added to them, usually in the form of a neutral grape spirit like brandy. This was originally done to extend the longevity of wines, for the purpose of long journeys such as a the sailing routes of the East India Company
These styles are often sweeter as the fortification arrests fermentation early.
