Description

Clai Baracija Refosk 2017

Clai Baracija Refosk 2017 is a captivating and distinctive red wine crafted by Clai, a renowned winery located in the Istrian region of Croatia. This wine showcases the indigenous Refosk grape variety, known for its rich flavors and unique character.

Grape Varietal & Region: Clai Baracija Refosk is made exclusively from the Refosk grape, a native variety that thrives in the Istrian terroir. Istria, situated on the Adriatic coast, is known for its diverse soils and favorable climate, which contribute to the distinctiveness of the region's wines. Main part of these young wines is situated on the location called Stancija Baracija from which the wine got the name

Taste Profile: Prepare your palate for an enchanting sensory journey with Clai Baracija Refosk. This wine offers a complex and layered flavor profile, with notes of dark berries, cherries, and plums. The wine showcases a medium to full body, with velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity that adds freshness and balance. The earthy and herbal undertones further enhance the wine's complexity, leading to a long and satisfying finish.

Winemaking Process: Clai follows a natural winemaking philosophy, focusing on organic and biodynamic practices. Grapes are hand picked, de- stemmed and gravity fed with their skins into large wooden barrels for maceration which variates but usually lasts from 7 to 20 days and starts with natural yeasts on the temperature at 30 Celsius degrees. Pigeage is done at least three times a day. The wine also undergoes malo-lactic fermentation. After pressing it is aged for two years in big oak barrels. Minimal intervention in the winemaking process allows the true expression of the grape and the terroir to shine through.

Clai is a family-owned winery led by the talented winemaker, Giorgio Clai. With a deep respect for nature and a commitment to sustainable viticulture, Clai has gained recognition as one of Croatia's most respected wineries. Their focus on organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking results in wines that beautifully capture the essence of Istria's terroir.
