Meyer-Nakel Pfarrwingert Grosses Gewachs 2021
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir from the Pfarrwingert vineyard within the Bernau region of Ahr, Germany
The Pfarrwingert vineyards are situated in the Ahr valley. The southern exposure, steep slopes and warmer ground, lead to a microclimate that is very favourable for growing vines. This soil here is rich in greywacke, a variety of sandstone. The Pfarrwingert vineyards produce extremely fragrant wines with subtle fruity, fine flavours and a pronounced minerality.
Taste Profile: Characterised by aromas of wild red berry, blueberry and cherry, this intense Spätburgunder Grand Cru's clear fruit bouquet is underlined by spicy herbal, roasted and violet notes. On the palate, it has an animated freshness and saltiness, firm minerality and depth. This Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) shows complexity with a mouth-filling, silky tannin structure.
Winemaking Process:Old vines, sustainable viticulture, consistent yield reduction and careful hand-picking form the basis of this wine. The yield is around 30 hl/ha. The grapes are carefully transported to the winery where fermentation begins, followed by 20 days maceration time on the mash. The wine matures in barriques (70% new wood content) on the fine yeast for 18 months, followed by a further six months in bottle storage. The wine is unfiltered when bottled.
