Grape Republic was established in 2015 by two friends and restaurant owners, Kazuomi Fujimaki and Takayuki Taira. Grape Republic is a very small producer of natural wines in Japan, which is rare to find in Europe or elsewhere.
They produce wines based on hybrid grapes such as Delaware, Koshu, Steuben and Niagara, to create unique and expressive wines. They create wines with fruit from their own vineyards (4 hectares) but also support ageing local growers.
