Damiano Ciolli

Damiano Ciolli produces a selection of advanced and personalised wines in Olevano Romano. He is a very passionate and dedicated natural winemaker.

Their estate vineyards and the winery are situated just outside the ancient city of Rome, in the small medieval town Olevano Romano.

This area was traditionally well-known for its remarkable viticultural potential. The 7-hectare estate vineyards are sheltered on three sides by the hilly landscape. The soil is deep red volcanic. The warm climate, characterised by rainy winters and sunny summers, with a fresh breeze blowing every day inland from the south-western Tyrrhenian sea, create the perfect growing conditions for high-quality Cesanese D’Affile grapes.

Long before Damiano, these vineyards were owned and tended by te Ciolli family for at least three generations. Like many other wine producers in Olevano Romano at that time, Damiano’s grandfather and father used to sell the ensuing wine in bulk to the capital.

When Damiano took charge of the winery in 2001, he focused on quality and was convinced that Cesanese grapes could yield very fine wines. In his quest for high-quality Cesanese wine, Damiano was supported by his family and significant other. Together they handcraft wines that showcase the interaction between Cesanese D’Affile native grapes and the unique terroir of their vineyards.

Damiano and Letizia focus on preserving the natural fertility of their soil by using green manure, biodynamic and organic products. Wine fermentations are indigenous without any additives.
