Barbeito Malvasia Reserva Sweet 5 Years is a remarkable fortified wine from the esteemed Madeira producer, Barbeito. This wine showcases the artistry and dedication of the winemakers, resulting in a sweet Madeira of exceptional quality and character.

Grape Varietals & Region: Barbeito Malvasia Reserva Sweet is crafted primarily from the Malvasia grape varietal. Grapes from various quality vineyards located in Arco de São Jorge.

Taste Profile: This sweet Madeira offers an enticing array of flavors and aromas. Gold colour. Notes of toasted almonds, honey and a bit of smoke. Lightly caramelized on the palate, fresh and polished. Excellent as a digestif. Accompanies well dessert, cheese, Christmas pudding and crystalized fruit.

Winemaking Process: Barbeito Delvino Reserva Dry undergoes a meticulous winemaking process. Grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press. Arresting of fermentation takes place at the desired degree of sweetness by adding vinic alcohol (96%). Malvasia aged in French oak casks for 5 years by Canteiro method. For this blend we selected wines from our warehouses with stable temperatures year round that originate a very well balanced wine in sugar and acidity.

Caramelized & Nutty Desserts

These wines are often aged oxidatively and show developed characteristics of rich caramel, cream and a range of nutty aromas. Sweetness levels can vary.

Many of these wines are made from dried grapes, and are often fortified or solera aged. Often viscous in texture, they classically have notes of almonds, coffee, and marmalade. Some styles may have a "cooked" tinge to it due to being aged in warm conditions

Fortification

Fortified wines are wines which have alcohol added to them, usually in the form of a neutral grape spirit like brandy. This was originally done to extend the longevity of wines, for the purpose of long journeys such as a the sailing routes of the East India Company

These styles are often sweeter as the fortification arrests fermentation early.
