Description

Momento Mori Give Up the Ghost Greco di Tufo 2019

Lifted aromatics with notes of sandalwood, pine resin and white flowers with a palate of orange peel, malted barley and ripe tangerines held together with a zippy lemon juice-like acidity.

Often simply known as Greco, Greco di Tufo is most at home in the Italian regions of Calabria and Campania. From the small amount available in Australia, Momento Mori sources from a handful of rows grown by the Chalmers family in Heathcote, Victoria,

The wine sees 10 months on skins, before being ‘drained off’ by gravity, resulting in only the run-off juice being used. Solely using the free run juice, as opposed to a typical pressing produces miniscule yields but “the results speak for themselves”, according to Dane. As with all Momento Mori wines, there are no additions in the winemaking process. In order to further retain the purity and freshness, all movement of the wine is done by gravity as opposed to the use of pumps.

The wine retains an incredible freshness, vibrant acidity and lovely lick of salinity with a chalky grip & texture in the mouth that is most rewarded alongside food. Allow the wine some air and time in the glass, as it blossoms and reveals the layers beneath its initially shy outer shell.
