The wine is named after an old footpath that Pieter Walser stumbled upon while traveling from the Swartland to Cape Town, where he found a stunning parcel of bush vines that produced this remarkable wine. The creamy texture and ripe tropical fruit flavors of the bottling evoke a fine Condrieu from the Rhone Valley.
Grape Varietals & Region: The Blankbottle Kortpad Kaaptoe Reserve is a blend of 4 pickings from the same vineyard of 100% Fernao Pires. Single old-vine, unirrigated bushvines in the Swartland flatlands. Sandy topsoil with “Koffieklip” subsoil 100 meter above sea-level.
Taste Profile: One of two releases of Kortpad Kaaptoe in 2021! This is the skin contact version, with a lovely gentle golden colour. Dried apricots, white pepper, matcha green tea powder and exotic bazaar like spices - dried ginger and saffron. Lovely weight and mouth-coating texture and excellent length. Drink with massaman curry.
Winemaking Process: The grapes were picked at different ripeness levels in 4 pickings and cooled overnight to 4 degrees celsius. The next morning the grapes were handled in different ways. Some fermented as whole clusters and some as de-stemmed on the skin fermentation. Fermented and aged in French oak (nothing new) and amphora. Deep winter the wine received sulfur, it's only additive. 10 months on the leese, blended and bottled.
