Chateau Rouget Pomerol Rouge 2018
Grape Varietals & Region: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Average 40 years of vines grown on gravelous soils mixed with clay. This soil composition, combined with an exceptional exposure, confers all the typicity, elegance and finesse to Château Rouget wines.
Taste Profile: Deep ruby in color. Intense aromas of blackcurrant, black and red plums, clove, vanilla, and cedar, along with a gentle background note of wildflowers. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate, with fine-grained and well-integrated tannins, plentiful acidity, and flavors of black fruit, wood spice, freshly roasted espresso beans, toast, chocolate, and graphite that linger beautifully over a prolonged finish. True to its Pomerol roots, it is both dense and powerful. Drink now–2042.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are manually picked and carefully transported in small 20 kg crates. Harvest occurs in several steps, in order to secure an optimal maturity level. Bunches are sorted a first time as soon as they arrive in the cellar. Then, once the grapes are fully destemmed, they go through another double sorting table. The wine is vinified in 40% barrel fermentation and 60% oak vats, and is aged in 30% new barrels
