Chateau Doisy Daene, Second's Cru Classe in 1855, located in Barsac in the Sauternes appellation, has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924. The wines have their own special style, with bright fruit concentrated by “noble rot”

Chateau Doisy-Daene L'Extravagant 2005

Doisy Daene produces a great Sauternes wine along with distinguished and unusual dry white Bordeaux: Grand Vin Sec du Chateau Doisy-Daene. During the great vintages, Doisy-Daene produces a famous and rare cuvee of unequaled richness: L'Extravagant.

A Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon Blend

Elegant if reticent nose of lemon jelly, melon and saffron. Extremely rich and concentrated on the palate with a viscous mouthfeel and pure, fresh citrus and sweet spice flavours.

Three barriques only were made, with roughly 204g/l residual sugar and 9g/l total acidity. Excellent and racy but lacks the weight provided by Semillon.

Lush & Balanced Desserts

Many of these wines often have been touched by botrytis, and have a beautiful balance between fruit & acidity. Despite being lush, they often have some brightness or mineraility to them, and are not as thick textured as some other dessert styles. Classic notes would be honey, botrytis, apricot, peach and other stonefruit, marmalade, spice

Noble Rot (Botrytis)

Wines such as Sauternes from Bordeaux; Tokaji Aszu from Hungary, and Spätlese level German Riesling all are made from ‘Noble Rot’ grapes.
These grapes are dehydrated by a fungus, which under the right conditions, results in more intensely flavoured berries, and giving them a unique flavour & texture that makes these sweet wines vivid & bright
