Alves de Sousa Gaivosa Primeiros Anos 2017
Grape Varietals & Region: Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional. The fruit comes from the highest and coolest points of Gaivosa in the heart of the Duoro Valley. The vines grow in south facing vineyards with schist and clay soils.
Taste Profile: The nose opens with graceful notes of wild berries, florals, cedar and mint. The full-bodied palate is elegant with soft tannins and a beautiful balance. Ripe yet crunchy strawberry, currant and blueberry fruit flavours layered with a delicate touch of chocolate and leather spice. The mile long finish oozes class and quality.
Winemaking Process: Manual harvesting and total destemming of the fruit. Fermentation in stainless steel for 7 days at 20–22°C. Post-fermentation maceration of 5 days. The wine ages for 20 months in 2nd and 3rd use French and Portuguese Oak Barrels.
