Born and raised in Ribeira de Santarém, Hugo Mendes studied Biotechnological Engineering but his passion for wines spoke louder and since the 2006 harvest he has dedicated himself entirely to oenology.

Each underdog is more than the unique and special wine in the bottle. It also combines an art specifically for the unique occasion. Never to be repeated.
Arinto is an indigenous grape to Portugal that produces exceptional, age-worthy whites with the ability to evolve over 7 or more years; revealing flavours of beeswax and nuts. This white is crisp with aromas of flowers and citrus. It has a medium body with high acidity and notes of tropical fruits and chalk.
The Arinto grapes were destemmed after manual picking. The juice and the skins fermented together without temperature control. After fermentation ended, the tank was closed for 6 months before pressing. After a week, the wine was bottled, with no stabilisation or filtration.
