Sextant winery is the personal project of young vigneron Julien Altaber. Julien is committed to producing natural wines according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. His wines are a frank and honest reflection of the terroir and the varieties he cultivates.
History
Julien grew up in the Southern part of Burgundy (and still loves) the Auvergne region where he was born. As a kid, he spent all his family vacations with cows and on tractors. After high school there was only one real option for him: FARMING! But being a farmer and working the land was hard work.
Living in the heart of the Mâconnais, it was only natural that he ended up coming to the vineyards. At 16, Julien experienced his first stint at a winery and loved it! The harvest, the fermentation, the wine, he had discovered an exciting environment.
After a few internships and various jobs working in several Mâconnais and Beaujolais wineries, Julien then increased his training in 2000 by working for one of the largest Négociants in Beaune. And then, after 2 years, he decided to return to a more “family-sized”, organic winery.
In 2002, Julien arrived in Saint Aubin to work for Catherine and Dominique Derain. Extremely passionate, these people were real “workers” who love and truly understand their profession. Julien learnt organic farming and winemaking, and discovered biodynamic agriculture and natural wines! Here he works in all areas: vines, cellar, sales…
