Chan de Rosas

Presenting the brains behind Chan De Rosas is Marcos Lojo. A Technical Engineer in Agrifood Industries from the University of Santiago de Compostela and Winemaker. He began his professional career in 1995 working as Winemaker and Technical Director in some of the most emblematic wineries of the DO Rías Baixas, and of the Green Wines in Portugal, always making white wines of the Albariños variety. Today he can be considered one of the most veteran winemakers with the best knowledge of the area and of the Uva Albariño variety.

The D. O. Rías Baixas is located in the Atlantic region. The wines from this D. O. are so atlantic wines. In winter, the atlantic low pressures with its warm fronts, usual/y of tropical origin, bringing heavy rain, and mild temperatures, with small variation between day and night. Springs come early with lot of rain. The Azores anticyclone in summer extends into southern Europe, blocking the stormy weather. Rainfall levels are low, and temperatures are mild thanks to the fresh winds. During this season the soils are dryer due to low rain foil warm temperatures and well-drained sandy soils. After the Azores anticyclone goes away, in Autumn the low pressures come one after another becoming a very rainy season.

The Rías Baixas and in particular the vineyards where the CHAN DE ROSAS is obtained, are located next to the Ria de Arousas Sea. It is a little shallow but well-drained soil, the origin comes from the decomposition of the granitic rocks, resulting in a sandy soil and acidic structure. Both the location of the land and the type of soil will give the wines a characteristic note of salinity and minerality.

The experience and the knowledge he obtained of the area and the Albariño grape, led Marcos Lojo to the selection of 12 Salnés Valley winemakers with vineyards in privileged lands for the quality of grapes produced Albariña. These vineyards are planted in some of the cases for more than 70 years in the areas of: A Carabuxeira (Sanxenxo), Padrenda (Meaño), Cabeza de Boi (Meis), A Pedreira (Sisán) Castrelo (Cambados) and Lores (Meaño).
