Anna Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2016

Villa Sant'Anna Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2016

An all-women estate quietly upholding centuries of Tuscan tradition — graceful, structured, and unmistakably Nobile.

Grape Varietals & Region: 80% Prugnolo Gentile (the local clone of Sangiovese), with 10% Mammolo and Canaiolo, and 10% other complementary grapes, from estate vineyards near Abbadia di Montepulciano in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Tuscany, Italy. The estate's 12 hectares of vineyards sit on medium-blend, tufaceous-pebbly soils with southwest exposure, at an altitude of 300–350 metres. The Villa Sant'Anna property has been owned by the Ruggeri Fabroni family for about two hundred years.

Taste Profile: Delicate aromas evoking underbrush, plum, new leather, and blue flower shape the nose on this linear red. On the ethereal, graceful palate, bright acidity and agile tannins lightly support sour cherry, orange zest, and star anise before a tangy finish. Loads of sweet cherries and wild berries layer with dusty earth, cigar wrapper, forest floor, new leather, and licorice in this elegant wine — aromatic lift, sneaky power, and fine tannins showcase real Tuscan terroir. A bit rustic, yet immensely pleasing for its sense of character and place — full-bodied yet always elegant and silky. Best paired with roasted meats, game, hard cheeses, and cured salumi. At nearly a decade of age, the wine has reached a beautifully resolved, savoury maturity.

Winemaking Process: Grapes undergo maceration for around 20 days at 30°C, after which the wine is aged part in barriques and tonneaux. Vines are cultivated according to the Guyot method, with low, erect, self-supporting trunks, and yields kept moderate at 50–75 quintals per hectare. The wine is aged for two years in the estate's ancient underground cellars in casks of French oak, at natural, constant temperatures. Total production is limited to around 24,000 bottles per year
