Description
Tornatore Etna Rosso Contrada Pietrarizzo 2019
Tornatore Etna Rosso Contrada Pietrarizzo is a wine of remarkable structure and incredible persistence. Pale ruby red colour. Balanced nose of small red fruits and violet or rose hip florals. The aromas follow through to the full-bodied and dry palate, where it perfectly integrates with a distinctive minerality and elegant tannins. Surprisingly drinkable and has an evolution worthy of a great wine.
Fun Fact: Since the last century, the natives consider the Pietrarizzo district to be one of the finest crus.
Ageing potential: 10–15 years.
100% Nerello Mascalese. The grapes come from Tornatore's vineyards in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern side of Mount Etna. The vines are arranged in terraces, growing in deep and very fertile volcanic soils. The climate is characterised by mild temperatures, reflecting the influence of the mountain reliefs from that side (Nebrodi). The result is a late maturing environment and the predominant altitude promotes strong thermal excursions.
Manual harvesting of the grapes. Transportation in special crates to the winery, where the grapes go through manual selection and processing. Fermentation in wooden vats at a controlled temperature of 22–25°C for 10–12 days. Ageing in large wooden oak barrels and concrete tanks for 12 months in a completely buried cellar.
