Description
Petra Quercegobbe Merlot Toscana IGT 2017
Another gorgeous super Tuscan from Petra! Petra is a boutique winery in the heart of Tuscany, Maremma, on the outskirts of the small town of Suvereto. Described as a women's company, its progress has been directed by women for more than 200 years: from Elisa Bonaparte to Francesca Moretti.
A genuine cru. 100% Merlot sourced from Petra's estate vineyard located close to the winery, at the border of mediterranean shrubland on a well-ventilated hill looking out over the sea. The grapes are picked at optimum ripeness and undergo a careful vinification aimed at defending the terroir's unique connotation. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled tapered oak vats. The wine ages for 15 months with 50% in new barriques and 50% in once-used barriques. Finally, it ages in bottle for another 10 months.
Deep ruby red colour. Displays rich aromas of dark and red fruits with subtle notes of spice, balsamic, rosemary and liquorice. Elegant and well-balanced with a dense body, pleasant mineral flavour, fine tannins and an enduring bouquet. The palate reveals smooth dark plums, blueberry jam, dried raspberry and black cherry fruit flavours with layers of spices and aromatic herbs. Vibrant and harmonious on its long finish.
