Description
Petra "Petra"
The embodiment of Petra winery, created to tell timeless tales with new words. Petra is an award-winning boutique winery in the heart of Tuscany, Maremma, on the outskirts of the small town of Suvereto.
70% Cabernet Sauvignong and 30% Merlot. The grapes are grown in estate vineyards with calcareous soils that provide a good balance of clay and rocky backbone. The grape bunches go through a meticulous and non-invasive process to preserve and valorise the terroir's characteristics. Natural fermentation occurs using local yeasts in 100 hl tapered oak vats. The wine then ages in first, second and third-use barriques for 18 months. The barriques have a medium-light toasting that accompanies and exalts the fruit without overpowering it. Finally, the wine ages in bottle for another 18 months.
Ruby red with flashes of garnet. The powerful bouquet evokes intense notes of wild blackberries, cassis, black cherry, dark plum and subtle hints of mint, rosemary, peppercorn and tobacco. The aromas follow through to a full, elegant and perfectly balanced palate. Fresh acidity and velvety tannins complete the palate, and the wine closes with a persistent balsamic finish.
