Leoparodi Barolo 2012

"How true that in wine there is truth. I'll tell you everything, no secrets." β€” William Shakespeare (1564–1623).

Warm, smooth, rich and persistent. Leoparodi's Barolo is as dramatic, prolific and enthralling as the famous playwright. Pour this gorgeous wine into a large glass and let it breathe for a few minutes to reveal its true Barolo flavours and aromas.

Red garnet appearance with orange shading. The clean nose is intense and pervasive with aromas of sour red cherry, earth, leather and violet. The full-bodied palate is dry with juicy acidity and fine, aggressive tannins. Slightly spiced with tobacco and liquorice notes. Approachable and easy to drink, age for another handful of years to see how it develops and what secrets it will reveal.

Sourced from south-west facing vineyards planted in 1980, located 300–400m above sea level. Miocene soil with prevailing marls and sedimentary rocks of marine origin, rich in lime and clay, blue or grey-whitish in colour. The grapes for this wine were manually harvested in the beginning of October. 10–15 days maceration with skins at controlled temperature. A minimum of 3 years ageing in large oak barrels, followed by another minimum of 12 months ageing in bottles.
