Olivier Leflaive Meursault Blanc 2018
A beautiful buttery and complex white from a big-name Burgundy producer.
Olivier Leflaive owns 12 hectares of land covering some of the most prestigious Bourgogne appellations, including Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Chassagne-Montrachet. As a négociant business, Olivier Leflaive works with around 100 trusted growers, taking on the expenses of vinifying, maturing and bottling so that farmers can focus on what they do best: growing grapes. Olivier Leflaive’s success as a négociant lies in the fact that all wines bearing the name are completely vinified, matured and bottled in house by Olivier Leflaive. Their methods show off the true négociant art of blending several elements to create a final blend that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Meursault is the biggest village of la Côte de Beaune, which produces mainly white wines. According to the location of plots, the sit between 250–300 metre altitudes with rich and deep (at the bottom of the hillside) or limestone and marly soils. The cuvée comes from blending 15–20 different but complementary plots in order to obtain a rich and elegant wine.
At their arrival in the Olivier Leflaive cellar after a manual harvest, the grapes are immediately and carefully pressed with a pneumatic press. 50 % crushed grape and 50% whole grape is used. The wine ages for 17 months in 100% oak barrels (20% new oak), 5 months of which were in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine goes through fining and filtration before bottling.
An elegant and creamy Chardonnay with a nutty backbone. Golden yellow colour. The bouquet exudes fine, intense aromas of almond, hazelnut and apple. The palate offers butter popcorn, honey almonds, vanilla and the hint of a citrus sharp lemon peel and grapefruit character. A delectable balance of smoothness and freshness on the palate makes this a lovely drink for any occasion. A long, buttery mouthfeel closing with a persistent golden apple and almond finish.
Top tip: Drink between 2021 and 2027.

Not quite the final assemblage as some more lieux dits will be added. It certainly speaks of Meursault on the nose, with a good weight of fruit to the back of the palate. For the moment on the chunky side but it will refine.
A good and classic, slightly spiced Meursault nose. Some gas, but nothing that hides the fullflavoured delicious wine – also classically Meursault and absolutely excellent! Lovely finishing – so delicious. Bravo!
