Masciarelli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2018
Masciarelli is a global icon, an ambassador for the Abruzzo region. They create wines that bring something special to the lives of everyday consumers. The quality and care poured into producing this 100% estate Montepulciano results in a wine that never fails to leave an enormously positive impression.
Over the years, Masciarelli has carefully assembled 60 specific sites spread across the diverse soils and altitudes of the 4 provinces of Abruzzo (Chieti, Pescara, Teramo and l’Aquila). These vineyards are farmed sustainably, with great care and concern for the environment. The fruit for this wine is sourced from 4 different plots at varying altitudes: S. Martino sulla Marrucina (400 metres), Ripa Teatina (250 metres), Fara Filiorum Petri (300 metres) and Villamagna (280 metres).
100% Montepulciano. After destemming and pressing, the grapes undergo warm fermentation (28–30°C) on skins in stainless steel for 10–15 days. Further ageing and refinement occurs for 20 months in stainless steel to maintain the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit. The wine is then racked and bottled by gravity without fining or filtration.
Deep ruby red colour with violet inflections. Opens with an intense nose of ripe cherries, black currant, wild red berries, violet florals and hints of tobacco. Complex and refined, with velvety tannins and a lively acidity on the palate.
