Mas d’Alezon Le Presbytère Faugères 2017
A blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Lledoner Pelut. The grapes are manually harvested from old vines planted on an island of shist in the Languedoc’s Faugères appellation. The vines are grown at high altitude (350–450 metres a.s.l.) and the vineyard is farmed with organic and biodynamic principles, certified by Demeter. The wine is spontaneously fermented and vinification occurs in concrete eggs and large chesnut barrels, giving freshness and vitality to the wines. Unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulphites.
Perfectly ripe red and dark fruits dominate the wine, with prominent black plum, blackberry, cassis and red cherry flavours. Its fruit forwardness is complemented by an earthy, smoke and stone-salty background. Light and lifted, with well-integrated fine tannins and a bright acidity. Closes in a long finish. This one’s a must try or regret it kind of wine!
