Giovanni Rosso Barbera d’Alba DOC Donna Margherita 2015
Yea, we get it, you’ve heard of the popular ‘B’s from Italy (Barolo, Brunello) somehow not Barbera. This grape varietal is fresher and juicer since it originates from Italy. It is also present in New World California but harnesses different notes. This bottle of Barbera d’ alba is interestingly complex, light bodied yet rich, smooth and easy to drink. Bright in acidity with hints of plum, raspberries and blueberries. Planted between 1959 – 2008, the vines are as old as my mom (sorry mom!). Only 100,000 bottles are produced each year.
Harvest period starts from the beginning to end of October! Fermentation lasts some 10-15 days with daily pumping of the wine mass with délestages at half of the period (fermentation in stainless steel tanks). Finally aged in 50hl oak barrels for some months.
We love bringing this bottle to trivia nights, gotta keep your friends on their toes with knowledge of Barbera wines.
