Giesen Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020
Light and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc with expressive aromatics and generous flavour. Opens with a bouquet of grapefruit, lime zest and green apple. Bright citrus and passion fruit flavours dominate the palate with a background of dried herbs and subtle blackcurrant leaf. Dry, with a tight acidity and slight bitterness that cleanses the palate. A delightful balance of crisp and fruit that ends in a lingering, persistent mouthfeel.
Carefully selected fruit from Wairau and Awatere Valley, two renowned Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc regions. The parcels of fruit are destemmed, gently pressed and batch fermented. Specially selected yeast is added to the juice to start fermentation, which takes approximately three weeks at 12–16 degrees. Fermentation comes to a halt when it achieves the perfect balance of natural sweetness and classic Marlborough acidity.

There’s some flinty, oniony reduction at first sniff, but also plenty of passion fruit, pineapple, crushed green herbs, tomato leaf and fresh green bean aromas. Slippery in texture and prickly with acidity, white spice and seashell characters round out the green herbs and subtle fruit. Simple but balanced and refreshing.
