Giesen Estate Riesling 2020
“Riesling is a great way of introducing people to wine. We’re discovering our Riesling – particularly Giesen Estate Riesling – is finding favour with younger drinkers who enjoy the aromatics and slighter sweeter style. That’s one of the wonderful things about Riesling, there are so many styles making it a wonderful variety for wine lovers to explore and enjoy.” — Giesen Brothers.
Made by three brothers who aspire to create great wines for people around the world to love. The Giesen Estate Riesling is New Zealand’s most popular Riesling that consistently wins awards each vintage year.
A vivacious and charming Riesling. Straw colour with hints of green in the glass. Generous citrus blossom, honeysuckle and delicate apricot bouquet. Alluring lime and sweet mandarin flavours with layers of poached pear, honey apple and slight minerals. An ingenious balance of concentrated flavours, smooth texture and crunchy acidity. Delightfully crisp with a refreshing off-dry finish.
Blended from cool-climate vineyards throughout Marlborough and Waipara. The grapes are pressed and settled for 36 hours. The juice was then fermented in separate vineyard batches, mostly at cool temperatures. A selection of different yeasts amplify the regional characteristics of the Marlborough portion of the blend. Giesen winemakers tasted each parcel daily and stopped the ferment when the acid, sugar and alcohol balance was reached and when the aromas of spice and exotic tropical notes were present. Stopping the ferment early retains natural sugar, which creates the beautiful off-dry element of this wine. Following blending, this Riesling was kept on light lees until bottling to ensure flavour intensity.
