By far Austria's most important grape, it's a perfect sunny summer wine made in a lean, herbaceous, and peppery wines with mouth-watering acidity, explaining why it translates to "Green Wine of Veltlin". Expect aromas of lime, starfruit, gooseberry, asparagus & gravel, essentially an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc.
An ideal palate cleanser, think of sashimi or light meats like roast chicken when pairing this wine. It's one of the wines that pair up with vegetables like artichoke & asparagus, which are otherwise notoriously difficult to pair.
There are some "Reserve" styles that are rich & nutty due to oak ageing, though Gruner's hallmark acidity will still cut through the rich textured lemon honey layers.
