French Alsace Wines

Alsace is one of those regions that show you the complexity that can be found in white wines. The Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris from this region are among the most complex and age-worthy white wines in the world.

A couple notes on Alsace wines:

  • Pinot Gris is typically made in an off dry style, with notes of peach, tangerine, beeswax, and almond
  • Pinot d'Alsace is a blend of the Pinots, made into a dry, golden color white wine
  • Gentil blends have at least 50% of the 4 noble grapes; Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Muscat
  • Cool climate Pinot Noir from ALsace would offer bright, tart red fruit flavors, herbal notes and a spicy finish
  • Cremant d'Alsace is a must-try Champagne alternative, often made with a blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay, or 100% Pinot Noir for a Rose variant
